What an excellent read--a well woven tale full of emotion and excitement. Been following this journey since the early days of the crowdfunder to Bring her Home, cried like a baby in public when "Find" became "Found", and monitored every hour of the 41 hour journey home.Figured the book would be a quick reminisce. I was stunned by the full tale. Can't imagine who you would have to be to NOT enjoy this well written memoir, and I completely see the adaptability to screen (good luck casting Gobi!).Don't know or care about the tale? Pick up a copy anyway--worth the price. Perfect summer read. But just maybe along the written journey your faith in this tumultuous world, or at least some of the souls inhabiting it, will be restored. Something each of us can take away to be found in this journey.Thanks for taking us along; thanks to those enabling the story to be told; and thanks for for the happy ending!Here's to Bringing Gobi Home and to Finding Dion.(PS And much love to Lucja...)
How did a scrappy, sandy-colored stray dog find a group of people running in the middle of the Gobi Desert? And then choose Dion Leonard out of all those people to bond with?We'll never know why she chose him, One reason may be his terrier-like tenacity to bring her home with him no matter the odds. Perhaps she sensed a kindred spirit in Dion. I like to think so.This heart warming (and sometimes heart breaking) story captured MY heart. It's a quick read with many twists and turns along the journey.I received this book in exchange for my review from the publisher. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I loved the story so much, I bought 4 copies! One for myself and 3 to give to friends and family.
I first heard about this story because I'm an animal lover and get a lot of news on-line about heartwarming stories of rescues, people being saved by dogs, and dogs being saved by people. I am also an avid outdoors-person so friends send me links about amazing adventure stories. This book really fleshes out an incredible story that I have been following on various international radio and TV stations. I guess the biggest surprise for me reading this book is that even without the lost dog-found dog element, it is a great look into the mental makeup of these crazy extreme athletes and the things that motivate them.During a year where there was so much bad new in the world...we need to be reminded of the kindness and the power of love between peoples around the world, and how miracles can happen when these people work together to rescue a brave little dog. I have always believed you can judge a man by how they treat a person that can do nothing for them. By extension you can judge a world by how many people are willing to band together to rescue an animal that DEFINITELY will be providing them with nothing...well except unconditional love if you are the lucky person that gets to live with Gobi. I'm a pretty unsentimental person typically. 57 year old professional man that hunts, skis, ride motorcycles, and loves dogs. When I read this story, my faith in humanity was restored.
I enjoyed every second of reading this book. It is a true story full of suspense and mystery. It is very well written and keeps one on the edge all the time. A great story of a special man and a special dog. Incredible to think what they endured to be together. A must read.
A stray but brave little dog(later named Gobi) meets her human soul mate(Dion Leonard) in the most remote region of China. Gobi runs along with Dion for nearly 80 miles in a 155 mile ultra marathon race where they developed an unbreakable bond. Where Gobi showed grit and determination in following Dion during the long challenging desert race, Dion was just as devoted and resolved in getting Gobi safely out of China and bringing her back to his home & family in the UK. Finding Gobi is an amazing story. Once you start reading it, you'll not want to stop. If you love dogs,adventures, suspenses, stories of human interest, and inspiration, you'll love Finding Gobi. I highly recommend it!
An amazing true story. I had tears in my eyes as I read this. If you are a dog lover or just an ordinary person you will love this story of man and dog finding eachother and the huge struggle that followed to enable them to be together.tia is about his determination to save his dog given enormous obstacles, but much help from a whole range of people. I could not stop reading. It it the best dog story i have ever read.
