About the Author

William Alexander, born in East Prussia in 1915, began his art career painting murals and decorating carriages for the German aristocracy. Except for a few formal lessons at an art school in Canada, Alexander was a self-taught artist. Alexander's love and enjoyment of painting took him on the road at age 50. He traveled throughout the United State and Canada with his wife, Margarete, teaching art and painting. During this time, he modified traditional oil painting methods by developing his own thick, rich paints. These paints allowed him to layer colors over one another without waiting for the first layer to dry. These paints, with his specially designed tools, established the Alexander Wet-on-Wet Technique and enabled artists to complete an oil painting in one sitting. After appearing on numerous public television shows, Alexander became known as the "Happy Painter." He later moved with his wife to the mountains of Canada, amid the beautiful landscape he enjoyed painting so much. Alexander passed away in 1997.

I didn't get much out of this. Actually, I got more info from youtube than from the book... There are a few useful hints in it but really not worth it..

not a very good "how to" book. examples given were very poor

This book is fantastic. From beginner to accomplished artist there is something to be gained in this publication.

I bought this book for my stepson who is quite the painter of landscapes. He wanted it for reviewing since he had stopped painting for a while. Now that he's back in it, he wanted something to review with and remembered that someone had recommended this to him. He says it's a great book, both for those beginning, or those who just want to brush up on information.I would definitely recommend this book.

I originally purchased this as a Christmas gift for my mom, but decided to keep for myself and purchase a second copy for my mom. Excited to try a few of these recipes THIS Christmas.God Jul :)

Jul by Patrice M. Johnson is a truly lovely holiday cookbook which features Swedish recipes although some of the recipes cross through other Scandinavian countries. I found plenty of similar recipes often prepared by Norwegian cooks for example. (My husband comes from a Norwegian background so I’ve learned to cook Scandinavian recipes). I love my copy of Scandinavian Home Cooking which is a cookbook filled with simple Scandinavian-style recipes. I may have a copy of Scandinavian Recipes tucked away in my bookshelf but I will have to look for it.Back to Jul: Jul features many holiday recipes and stories about how the food was prepared.
