I paid for an online course to try and pass my Life and Health class and failed. I than spoke to a friend of mine who said to buy this book and read it twice and make sure you do all of the questions over and over. Man o man was he right. I went from failing the test to scoring very high.Now you have to take some type of class to get the hours so you will have information from your class. Add in that info with this book and you will pass. Make sure you use the CD to go over all of the questions. Make out your own cue cards. Write the answer down on one and the questions on others and mix them all up and match them. I did this over and over until I beat this info into my brain.Now I am a life insurance producer who makes in the low 6 figures with no complaints...

I thought it was a recent edition, but the copy write date is 2004, although it was printed in 2014. IT DOES NOT CONTAIN ANYTHING ON THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, which if you've taken the classes you'd know is a pretty bid deal when it comes to health insurance. The disk comes with some half baked study program with REVIEW MODE only, and you have to go through extra means to get full content. I kinda wish i'd just gotten the torrent and printed off the e-book myself. Doesn't cover state information either.In review: No state specific information, no Obama Care/Affordable Care Act (ACA) and copy write date is 2004, which is 11 years old and anything older than 10 years old cannot be a good credible source of information.If you're like me and purchased that shotty AYOP einsurancetrainning.com all lines online class(es) and found that you need a study guide or a book to go with it, this is not for you, and you'll probably be better off just buying ink, paper (3 hole punch), and a binder and just copy-paste your lessons and printing it out and study that way.I hope I helped you guys and remember to check the copy write date and or make sure they contain the ACA info before purchase.

This book is the only reason I passed the life and health test. My company had me using License Coach which is horrible! I completed the online course and then took the parasitic tests in here until I felt comfortable. I would defiantly recommend this book. And I use the Kindle version which I liked the convenience of being able to open on almost any device.

The book itself is great! It has so much info to help you study for your state exam. The reason this is getting a 3 star rating is because the practice test CD that is suppose to come with the book is missing. I got a soundtrack to a movie instead of the insurance CD. I find highly annoying especially since I paid more money to get a brand new book!!

This book gives so much unnecessary information that makes it difficult to understand I kind of regret buying it. I wish there was a better and updated book but it seems this is the best one I could find. The book gives too many detail and focus on a single term instead of just learning the fundamentals, its ok but its also very frustrating because it waste so much time explaining unnecessary information. Also the book does not give examples so if you get lost you have to assume a scenario and pretend that's what its talking about. Honestly just take a class online I wouldn't recommend this book for simple learners.

Bought this for my son & it helped him out immensely. He said that it broke it down much better than the class he took, which made the test easier. He passed with only two mistakes, so I'm convinced. Great buy!

I tried a few different curriculum for learning this material but this book is the absolute best bang for your buck anywhere! I paid $99 bucks for what was supposedly interactive curriculum for use on a PC. It was basically just text scrolling on a screen! Dreadful! This book is written in far more understandable language and the price makes it a steal!

Too much info in general, but covers what you need to get a life/health license in ways that are applicable to pretty much any state. Just be prepared to skim some of the details. The practice questions were pretty good. A little better organization of the material would have brought this up to a 5-star review.FYI -- I used this to study for the Arizona Life & Health producers insurance license exam and passed on my first attempt. I will say that the exam question format in the book is not quite as challenging as it is on the actual exam, so see if you can find some other practice questions too to get a feel.

David Hunt takes the title of his volume on Australian history from the national anthem’s line “our home is ‘girt’ by sea.” This word, Girt, is a bit odd, and the story of Australia he tells is filled with similarly unusual words, characters, and events. This tongue-in-cheek history begins with the first Europeans to see the island and presents mistakes, questionable decisions, hilarious personalities, and poor judgement that led a small convict colony at the ends the earth to develop its own successful rum-based economy and freewheeling society in the 19th century. Hunt presents the foibles of the country’s biggest founding names in a witty narrative and mostly understandable Aussie slang. While we were traveling in Australia it was fun to learn the peculiar stories behind some of the names: Mrs. Macquerie’s design and construction of a hospital without bathrooms now used as NSW parliament, Flinder’s sailing around the island with cat and possible male love interest in tow. As a non-Australian, I think I understood most of the jokes, but some certainly were over my head. The short history of Australia is not particularly compelling on its own, but Girt was a solid read, particularly while we were on location.

Having been educated in an era when a Menzian anglophilic view of history was presented as fact, refreshing that an unsanitised (and sadly funny) version is available!And given what we know about lifestyle, health, law, politics from that era, it is good to see characters like Cook, Macquarie, called out for what they really were, rank self seeking opportunists who would have not cut it in any other era.Even today, our current conservative govt, and our most hippocritical PM in history, want to continue the anglo biased whitewashing of what was a regrettable era, by further glorifying characters like Cook and Banks.They were just lead characters in the shameful British and European colonisation of the world, their aim only to exploit and plunder, at the same time treating indigenous humans, fauna and flora as specimens to simply plunder for European museums and collectors.

I needed a good book on Aussie history to help me with a fiction series, and this book was not only educational but downright hilarious! Hunt makes liberal use of irony and sarcasm, so it's easy to see how someone could take his chapter on Aussie native cultures the wrong way. But it was all in good fun and entirely consistent with his scathing roast of historical figures and European cultures throughout the book. I learned, I laughed, and I plan on reading it again. It was recommended to me by an Australian, and I had more fun reading it than any other book I bought last year.

Unauthorised (British and Australian spelling - have some respect. )This is one very funny book. A very long time ago when I was at school we were taught all this rubbish as if Australians were the perfect nation. So thank you David Hunt for doing the research and telling us how it was. I could not stop laughing and I only wish David had written this way back when Australia was seen as " The Best country to live in." Like so many other countries it has its attractions and there are no doubts in my mind that Australia is unique. But it is just too far from the rest of the world for me. I live now in the USA.

Hunt prefaces his Introduction with a quote from Homer Simpson: "It's funny because it's true." Both the substance and source of the quote identify the tone of "Girt." Putting it more directly in his Acknowledgements, Hunt says he "wondered whether I could write an Australian history that was both accurate and amusing." Although it is evident that not all readers agree, I think he managed both pretty well. I learned some new things, obtained a better appreciation of some things that I thought I knew, and laughed a lot along the way.I am not a scholar of Australian history, but have read several serious treatments of the early days covered by this Volume 1 (which roughly concludes with Macquarie's demise in 1824), and Hunt appears scrupulously accurate on the facts. He also adds a good deal not included in standard histories that is not only amusing but sometimes quite telling in its particulars. Of course, what Hunt makes of the facts is another matter. A blurb on the jacket rightly refers to this as "hilarious history." Readers might be forgiven if they occasionally feel awash in puns, clever innuendos and satirical claims. So, probably you should not make this your exclusive source for the history of the persons and period treated! But either as an antidote to drier treatments or simply for a good deal of fun, I am happy to recommend "Girt" --- and I look forward to Volume 2.

And then your troubles really start on arrival. Early colonizers and their minders overcame a mountain of trouble. Its no wonder politicians in Britain are suspected of having their own interests and those of their cronies at heart..but their ineptitude is another reason. Just look at them trying to deflect the hapless Mrs May from actually delivering the voted result. I look forward to the second book.

Not the history book that reads like a dusty set of documents. Australia from pre-white invasion through to c 1820 is laid bare in a humorous yet detailed form from the earliest approaches of the Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch, and English, leading to a critique of James Cook's explorations and the first white settlement on the east coast of the continent. Hunt spares no reputation as he teases out the characters of the explorers and civil and military first settlers. This makes the book very approachable. Hunt's style is easy to read and gives plenty to smile about - no - laugh out loud. The objective is to generate interest of Australians in their history, and the book will be enjoyed by many from other lands wanting to know more about this place we love so dearly.

I use this when playing Four Against Darkness. It has a nice feel and it's much more aesthetically pleasing than regular grid paper

I’m a little disappointed in this product. It looks nice, but is misleading. It states: 9.75”x7.5” but because the grid pattern doesn’t continue to the page edges, you only get 9”x6” of usable grid per page. The cover shows the grid going all the way to the edge, which is misleading. A grid-ruled composition notebook is a better investment, all-in-all.

Not worth it sure if you have money lying around it’s fine but if you’re trying to be conservative just go to Walmart and buy it for .50 cents

great quality. worth buying two. i would suggest to the manufacturer to produce a book that has the exact same dimensions as a 3x4 battlemat for easy conversion.

The cover images suggest that the paper is printed on non-white, weathered-looking paper. The interior is white, and would not be considered "cream," as listed in the description. As such the pad is not anything special for RPG use or standout from typical graph paper.

It's a great book for drawing maps and taking notes while either playing or DMing.

This book arrived with the back cover smeared in grease or oil. like someone ate lunch on it and left a mess. I cannot give this to the person I bought it for.

Great design and as a beginner game master I felt like this was a good start!

This is a very entertaining book for amateur linguists, or anyone interested in European languages in general. Also recommended as a gift for any friends who may have a little curiosity about languages, but may not be willing to commit to more in depth books.The book does have a few flaws, such as glossing over differences between Slavic languages, and the proposed Bulgarian-Slovak merger is a bit tongue in cheek. Its treatment of Belarussian and Faroese is also glib. I think some chapter headings are in jest, e.g. the fact that Faroese retained cases leads the author to call it "Romans North of Hadrian's Wall". The author does correctly point to the fact that the general trend among both Germanic and Romance languages is to become less inflected over the centuries, and lose their cases. He makes interesting case that the languages which are relatively isolated geographically (Faroese, Icelandic are good examples for Germanic, Romanian such an instance of a Romance language) tend to retain cases and other archaic linguistic features.I don't find the author's sense of humor very funny, e.g. calling "irksome" languages that have retained inflections, especially the Slavic ones with a multitude of declensions and conjugations. The simplicity of English grammar is indeed a very useful factor in making it _the_ global language, but that doesn't mean that more complex languages should be looked down on. People who want or need to learn those languages should just buck down and learn the rules, just as English learners need to put up with the complex differences between the pronunciation and spelling. They can be understood in their historical context, and the multi-layered development of the English can the appreciated by those who are interested in learning about it. The author does a very good job at that, and calling English spelling "a headache" is clearly in teasing, and not jarring. Becoming a global language does take its toll on English--vestigial features are disappearing much faster than they might otherwise, e.g. the subjunctive mood or some instances of cases ("who" replacing "whom", which is now seen as overly pedantic). I agree with the author that this is an irreversible trend, like water flowing downstream by taking the path of least resistance. The few exceptions just confirm the rule, e.g. certain periods in the evolution of Romani languages, when they flowed upstream as far as (re)gaining inflections. Overall the good outweighs the bad with this trend toward a simple global language; I suppose the only drawback of it is that it makes it too convenient for monolingual native speakers of English to remain monoglots, thus missing out on the numerous advantages of bilingualism, from Alzheimer-proofing their brains to getting the perspective to better understand their own language. A small measure of this perspective is still possible to attain without learning fluently another language, by reading this very book.This is why I give this book five stars. It is clearly not meant to be a comprehensive survey of all European languages, let alone getting into much depth exploring any particular language, but is instead a collection of interesting tidbits about most of the European languages. I liked very much the insightful observations about how European languages are related and the commentary on historical trends, e.g. the author's explanation of the evolution of Iberian languages as 3 parallel windows with blinds that have first been rolled up (or to be more exact, fragmented in the first place by the Islamic conquest in the 8th century) and then pulled back down (with the Reconquista), but remaining fragmented in 3 main pieces. This is helpful in seeing Galician as the mother tongue of Portuguese, even though it might not be obvious at first sight (having no country of its own).

Here's a modest volume that will instruct and entertain anyone who uses a language. It's full of thumbnail portraits of languages great and small from all over. With 60 languages to choose from, I can guarantee that you'll encounter several you never heard of (Gagauz, Faeroese, anyone?) and several that are used by many millions of speakers. The author outlines several jobs that languages have to perform (like counting things) and shows the reader how different languages solve practical counting needs (like counting in French from 50 to 100). Underlying the fascinating details is the story of PIE (Proto-Indo-European) the great-grandparent of languages spoken from Iceland to India.Reading Lingo is like wandering through a great museum, admiring one showcase after another of beautiful exhibits, then discovering, just as you leave, that you have been cleverly educated without your realizing it. You understand how all those colorful idioms and verb conjugations fit into a wondrously complex fabric of language. This is knowledge that will enrich your entire life.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I've never been overly interested in languages. It doesn't go in depth into each language, but does give a enough interesting information on each one covered. I found it very easy to read since the chapters are short, making it very easy to pick it up again without being concerned about remembering where you were at when you put it down last. I learned a lot and highly recommend it.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It scratches the surface of many languages, and goes a little bit deeper into a plethora of European languages. On the topic of European languages individually it is heavily combed through, and quite comparative in many of the chapters. As someone who studied German and French as a schoolboy and teenager, I enjoyed the chapters on both languages. As someone who is also semifluent in Albanian, I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter on Albanian and it actually taught me something new about the language.I have two main points of criticism though, and they certainly don't detract from the subject itself.1) The author occasionally says things midway through a sentence or paragraph that befuddle me. The tone is if the author is talking to me, with his voice, directly. So midway through paragraphs there would be a "But you understand this, don't you?" or something such as that. For such an in-depth topic, it cut out the train of thought midway through. It gets to be slightly annoying about midway through.2) The way the chapters are structured make some sense, but ultimately were unnecessary in portrayal. We go from French to Balkan languages to Mansk to German to Irish Gaelic to Albanian to Scottish Gaelic to Yiddish to Serbo-Croatian to Norwegian, etc., etc. I felt as if I would know the topic more if the chapters were clustered into the languages they were involved in themselves. The French and Latin languages, the Balkan languages, the Finnish/Hungarian languages, the Germanic languages, etc. should have been placed with there most apparent parent language. That would have made more sense and would have given the reader the best way to broach the subject.Otherwise, a fantastic book, and one I will surly reference in the future.

This is a really neat book. Plenty of designs and not too complicated. I just wish there was a graph to show what percent to enlarge for different size caps.

Could have spent 15 more minutes in the creation of this book for it to be great.

Nice book

This book has some very pretty and different patterns from the usual flat panel lamp patterns. Many of the patterns flow around the panels so that you get a more fluid look which I really like. This design gives a feeling of movement that I find more interesting. The pattern I chose was the "Roses." It has quite a few pieces. The problem I ran into was that when I had the pattern enlarged was; I did not go big enough. I ended with a pattern just shy of 2'' vase cap. I found this too small. At this size, by the time you cut your pattern out with your foil scissors, some of the pieces were too small to foil, mere slivers. This was for the small pieces which "wrap" around the panels. The solution would be to go larger with your pattern. This will not keep me from making the lamp; just a matter of revision on my part. I am a bit out of practice with my stained glass, so I may start with one of the simpler patterns with fewer pieces per panel. All in all, it is a book of lovely patterns and I am happy I purchased this book. It makes standard flat panel patterns look, well, flat by comparison. A refreshing change.

Carol Nackenoff is Richter Professor of Political Science at Swarthmore College and author of The Fictional Republic: Horatio Alger and American Political Discourse. Julie Novkov is Professor of Political Science and Women's Studies at the University at Albany, SUNY, and chair of the Department of Political Science. She is author of Racial Union and Constituting Workers, Protecting Women.
