This is a great Bible. I had a Good News for Modern Man when I was young. I'm pretty sure it was the first translation I read the entire New Testament in. The line illustrations are just wonderful. The maps in the back really help. There is an index. It is just an all around great Bible translation with lots of reader aids and illustrations. The language is very readable. For years, I was told this was just a paraphrase. It isn't. This is a dynamic equivalence or "thought for thought" translation. For general readability and coherence, this is a real gem of a Bible.
The Good News translation, though some 50 years old now, is still about the best easy-to-read version of scripture out there. It is a genuine translation (not a paraphrase) and as such is accurate and does not come across as simplistic. The iconic line drawings in this edition are also a joy to have. Wish it was still in print in this form.
This is the 2nd time I have ordered this version of the New Testament. The King James Version was very difficult for me, as a young adult, to understand. This version, however, truly opened the door to my Spiritual awakening due to its easy to read and understand format.This version was never intended to be a study Bible; it was intended to open the minds of all via a "Good News" style.The sellers description was highly accurate, and I was surprised there were no markings in this 1966 edition.
Great translation, have been using this translation since my dad gave me my first bible at 9 years old. Had to replace mine as it was worn out. Would recommend this translation to anyone who wants a translation that is very easy to read and understand. Of course, I always recommend using MULTIPLE translations to enhance overall understanding of the gospels :) May your bible studies be blessed :)
I fell in love with the Good News Bible 9 years ago when my grandfather passed away. I sat in his recliner reading it with my grandma and everything is so understandable! He has read through his bible several times. That’s all I wanted when he passed away and I was able to have it. I have been reading it and making it my own. I’m now married and my husband loved my bible but I just couldn’t stand to be without it so I purchased this one online. The outside cover was very dirty but I took a Clorox wipe and cleaned it off. Looks new :)
2nd copy. had one in the 60's when i was a teenager. wonderful help as reference with kjv. if you do not understand kjv this handy book is written in prose version and easier for any reader with questions to get a better understanding of what kjv was trying to convey. excellent for new christians as well as older christians. great reference book. easy to read and understand no matter what age. great gift to new and older christians.
Great book for the new people who want to understand God's word in a clear and concise manner without all the 'Thee's" and 'Thou's". Perfect for any teenage or adult who wants to find a simple way of reading God's word in a language that they will understand.
My favorite Bible for easy understanding that I bought 4 more and gave them to family and a friend as a gift. The stories are titled and subtitled which is a great help. This encourages reading on without the usual frustration of following where a story begins and ends. The prints are bold and not small compared to many other Bibles. This Bible is more like sitting down to read a novel, totally enjoyable.
